FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

DOES IT HURT?

No, most of the time there is no to little pain associated with being treated and the vast majority of patients find Chiropractic care to be relaxing and enjoyable. If you are in lots of pain, treatment techniques are modified to be as gentle as possible. Patients may experience some minor post-treatment soreness as your body is changing; similar to if you go to the gym for the first time, it takes your body a little bit to get used to the changes.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FEEL BETTER?

This is dependent on how the problem has existed for, is there any complicating factors and how much you do to help yourself. Patients who follow the recommendations from Dr Reece, do their exercises and avoiding aggravating activities in the initial stages can be back on track in a few weeks, other more complex conditions can take a little longer.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY DOCTOR?

No referral is required to be treated however we do get a lot of referrals from GP’s and have a close working relationship with the local medical practices.

CAN I CLAIM CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENTS THROUGH MY PRIVATE HEALTH FUND?

Collie Chiropractic has a HICAPS machine making it convenient to claim on the day of treatment. If your policy covers you for Chiropractic then it’s as easy as swiping your card. Depending on your policy there may be a small gap payment.

AM I TOO OLD TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

No. Treatment techniques are tailored to you, as you age your body isn’t as strong and robust as it once was so Dr Reece will use more gentle techniques to help you feel better. Dr Reece has seen patients right up to 95 years old.

I HAVE ARTHRITIS, CAN I STILL GET HELP?

Yes. Arthritis is our bodies natural ageing process and is often due to many years of physical work and previous trauma.  Arthritis forms in the joints when they have been subjected to significant load which is why chiropractic care is a great form of treatment for arthritis as Chiropractors keep the joints moving.

WILL I NEED X-RAYS?

Most people will not require x-rays. In the majority of cases, x-rays provide little insight into the cause of the problem or change the recommended management. In more complex cases which have been there for a while, involve trauma to the region or is clinically indicated you will be referred for x-rays at the Collie Hospital which are bulk billed.

WILL I ALWAYS NEED TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

No, how long you choose to benefit from Chiropractic care is always up to you. For simple problems, there is no need to continue care once you and Dr Reece are happy with your recovery. Some patients will need some supportive care to help avoid their symptoms returning. Most of these patients have a long history of pain and often have jobs or hobbies in which they continually aggravate their conditions.

WHY DO PEOPLE SEE A CHIROPRACTOR ONCE THEY FEEL BETTER?

Pain is often the last thing to occur and the first thing to go away. If you think of waking up one morning with a toothache and a visit to your dentist diagnoses tooth decay, the decay didn’t happen that morning as it’s been building for a while; often months or years. Spinal pain is very similar, often patients will be required to undergo follow-up treatment after the disappearance of pain to further strengthen their body thus helping to avoid injury reoccurrence.

CAN I SEE A CHIROPRACTOR WHEN I AM PREGNANT?

Yes, you can and many women do. Chiropractic care is a safe and gentle treatment for all stages of pregnancy. Treatment is tailored specifically to the stage of pregnancy you’re in. Dr Reece uses pregnancy pillows with a “cut-out” for bub to fit into allowing you to be able to lie on your tummy if you feel comfortable to do so.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE THAT CHILDREN CAN BE TREATED?

No there isn’t. Children and babies are treated in a very gentle manner with specific techniques. Dr Reece regularly see’s babies from a few days old to young children and adolescents.

CAN I GET OTHER TREATMENT FROM A PHYSIOTHERAPIST OR MASSAGE THERAPIST AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes, you can, the old saying “two heads is better than one” is very true so a multi-modal treatment approach can be very effective.

WHAT TRAINING DO CHIROPRACTORS HAVE?

Chiropractors are educated in universities for a period of 5 years full-time and each year they must undertake 25 hours of professional development to maintain registration.
